I graduated from Philadelphia College of Art in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in painting. In 1999 I founded the Centreville Regional Art Guild, in Centreville, VA, and was its president from 1999-2002. I’m a plein-air landscape painter, and have studied in New Brunswick, Canada with painter Sharon Yates. I have also studied with painter Janet Fish.

I became a registered Copyist at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC in November 2000. I like to say that I am copying, not “making a copy”. I am not interested in producing an exact replica of the painting that I am

copying. Rather, I approach copying exactly as I approach painting from life in doing a still life, landscape, or figure painting. I often start with a blank canvas, and do all my measuring and drawing in the museum as I copy. I am fully engaged in the experience of observation and painting from life, with the added challenge of having people watch me and interrupt me. It’s challenging and fun!

I currently work for the Fairfax County (Virginia) Public Library at the Centreville branch, where I run a popular program called “Art at the Library”.
